I have given a lot of thought to what I can do for the environment and we have made some changes in the way our house operates recently. My husband and I bought every one in the house a reusable bottle to fill with water (mine is pink!) and we bought the big Brita filter for our fridge as well. We no longer buy bottled water from the store which saves us money and eliminates plastic bottles from sitting in a landfill. I do not put plastic spoons or forks in my kids school lunches and I use plastic bags for sandwiches and treats sparingly. I take my own bags to the grocery store and I am collecting batteries for the next recycling event in my community.
I know I can do more so I am gathering information on recycling in our area in hopes of starting a battery recycling program at the school my sons attend. I want to promote EARTH DAY EVERY DAY.

Congratulations! Other things you can do it replace the light bulbs in your house with Compact Fluorescent bulbs. Not only will you help the environment but you will save some money. Also getting a skylight helps your home to have natural light. It's about 300-400 dollars but the outcome in my opinion is worth it. Not to mention with the skylight we don't need to turn on the lights in the house as often. Placing a brick in the back of your toilet will help you to use less water per flush.... These are just some of the things I do. Hope they helped.
Thank you for reminding me of that! We use CFL bulbs in the lights we use the most. I would love a skylight. Friends of ours have a skylight in their bathroom and they hardly ever turn on the lights! I have never heard about the brick but that is a cool idea. We just bought new toilets and they hardly use any water at all. It's really cool. We had the siding, roof and gutters replaced recently and that has made a difference too. Oh, and I forgot about the computers... we have three computers in our house and we only keep one of them on the house power if at all possible. I love to see that dial barely turn about on my meter!
Thank you so much for all the great tips!
