2009 was a great year!
I know what you are thinking - ahem, you lost your job and your husband was off of work for most of the year... how is that great?
Well, let's see... my husband spent the holidays of 2008 and most of the year in 2009 with his kids. He saw them at breakfast, made their lunches, brought them to school and picked them up everyday. He never had the opportunity to do that before and he enjoyed every minute of it. So did the kids. I got to spend three weeks off with my husband - it was kind of like being retired (we didn't kill each other so I think we'll be good when we finally do retire). We had never had that opportunity before and we both enjoyed every minute of it. I have spent more time with my kids in the last three months I have been unemployed than I have in the last three years. I have loved every minute of it and so have my kids. Are you seeing a pattern?
Family is everything. Yes, we are struggling financially but it's not the end of the world. I will eventually get another job - hopefully soon if the market is really turning around like they keep saying it is. We are working on getting our mortgage payments down so there is a bit of good news. We have no car payment and we have been doing really well not spending which is good news too. It's still hard, I won't lie but we're doing the best we can. I have started making my own laundry detergent - works great and only costs about $3 for 10 gallons. I make my own countertop disinfectant too. Hello savings!
It is my opinion that you make your own happiness and like I mentioned before, unemployment has been a blessing. I love seeing my kids so much and they love it too which makes everyone happy.
My wish for 2010 is to find a job that allows me enough time with my kids - I don't want to lose this blessed feeling.
